Centre Manager, The Ridings
Barbara,
who originates from Liverpool, moved to Yorkshire in the late 1970’s.
She joined Speciality Shops in 1989 as Centre Manager for the Corn
Exchange Shops and White Cloth Hall in Leeds and was the initiator
of Sunday Trading in Leeds. She then assisted in the management of
additional centres in Birkenhead and Nottingham but decided to take
a break from Retail Property Management in 2000. Her break took her
into a number of specialist areas of property management, including
accommodation for people with special needs including physical
and learning disabilities. She was encouraged back into Retail Management
with Plus Shops in July of this year and is now the Centre Manager
for the Ridings Centre in Wakefield.
She is responsible along with
her management team for the day to day
running of the Ridings which is at the heart of Wakefield’s
retail offer which includes over 90 Retailers. This is coupled
with budgetary
setting and control for the Centre and adjoining 1000 space
car park. Additional income is generated from various mall activities
and retail merchandising units which the Centre hopes to grow.
She also acts as Company Secretary and Director of the Centre’s
Merchants Association which is responsible for the marketing
and promotion of the Ridings.
The Centre is now in the
midst of a 25 Million pound investment and improvement programme
which will re-launch the Ridings in Wakefield creating additional
outlets and a new and exiting food offer. Barbara is very enthused
with all the challenges and improvements that have been put
forward, which will make the Ridings one
of the best places for shoppers to “Shop till they drop” in
the region.
