Margo
Goodall
Margo is the Retail & Marketing
Executive for Plus Shops Ltd.
She takes charge of all the day to day elements of the
shopping centre business at the centres; or in other words
is the main man! This includes having the right team at the centres.
Working with the tenants and shoppers alike, she makes sure a
personnel service is given to all. Along with this, her budgetary
skills are used to the full, making sure good value for money
is provided.
Margo’s career started in her teens when she joined Woolworths
as a Saturday girl on the lingerie counter in Newquay, Cornwall.
Here she discovered the fact that fashion retailing might present
the career for her. This led her to travel to London where she
worked her way up in Topshop, earning her a career at Stirling
Cooper as the Retail Controller. She then started up her own company,
Eagle Jeans, and spent the next two years developing the business.
After taking time out, she travelled to the States for 3 months
basing herself in California, before returning to London as Retail
Coordinator to Bodyshop Designer Wear. She then went on to Chelsea
Girl (now River Island) as Concession Controller for the Group.
Then the 1st knock came from Speciality Shops in 1986, when she
expanded into the property retail market, helping the directors
build up their portfolio of Speciality Centres. Working on a close
footing with the tenants, she helped to enhance tenant mix and
kept budgetary controls on a tight rein.
During 1997 Speciality Shops merged with Conrad Ritblat to form
Milner Estates Plc, where she helped further with the expansion
of the company when they formed a retail partnership with Norwich
Union on another 5 Shopping Centres.
In 1999 the company was acquired by Delancey Estates Plc, where
Margo continued with her duties, which included Human Resources.
She then left in September 2000 to take a break from the property
world.
Then the 2nd knock on the door came from Shops etc in 2002. Her
skills were tested to the full with the investment and purchase
of Kennet Shopping Newbury, Hart Shopping Fleet and The Broadway
Shopping Centre Hammersmith. The Centres were purchased between
February 2001 and May 2003 and were sold in March 2004. Margo
believes that the superb financial return produced from the 3
Centres was entirely down to her performance! Who can argue? In
her spare time Margo likes to get the most of life, playing hard
and relaxing hard. However, being a keen supporter of Q.P.R the
latter is sometimes tricky! She is a party animal, and her brief
from the Company is to ensure they have the best Christmas party
ever! That is, without of course, breaking and health and safety
regulations!
